Former business editor launches independent consultancy - press release


Former national newspaper journalist and business editor, Jason Nisse, has left the agency he co-founded, Newgate Communications, to launch his own independent consultancy.

The Nisse Consultancy will offer message and media coaching, strategic communications, advice on special situations and crises and campaign planning and execution. Jason will draw on over 20 years’ experience on “Fleet Street” newspapers, including six as business editor of The Independent on Sunday, as well as more than a decade in communications, to offer clients the best advice on their messaging and media relations.

In early 2012, Jason as one of the founding partners of Newgate Communications and was instrumental in building a business that now has over 150 consultants in more than 10 offices on three continents. Newgate became a 100% subsidiary of Porta Communications in 2015. Prior to founding Newgate, Jason was a director of Fishburn Hedges and, before that, director of group media relations at Barclays. This followed a 20-year career in British national newspapers, including The Times, Telegraph and Mail on Sunday and The Independent.

Said Jason Nisse: “I’m proud of what we achieved at Newgate but it was time to strike out on my own. I believe that the new consultancy gives me more flexibility to take on clients that interest me and help them to achieve their goals. I can offer advice to anyone from a multinational to a sole trader, and be more entrepreneurial about how we work together.”

About Jason Nisse: Jason spent 20 years on national newspapers, including six as a business editor. In 2006, he became director of media relations for Barclays plc before moving into consultancy, firstly at Fishburn Hedges and then as a founding partner of Newgate Communications. At both firms he led the special situations and crisis communications disciplines, also providing media and message training as well as board level communications consultancy. Among the clients he has advised are BT, Glencore, HM Treasury, AXA, Zurich, Barclays, Nestle, PwC, Investec, Sidewalk Labs and the UK onshore oil and gas industry. He has also lectured on crisis communications at Harvard University.
